Kate by Marc, Documents Marc Quinn’s exploration of Kate Moss through Sphinx (2006) and Siren (2008), two monumental sculptures that reimagined the supermodel as an object of contemporary iconography. Cast in painted white bronze and solid gold respectively, the works emerged at a moment when celebrity culture and excess occupied the cultural landscape.
The book traces the making of the sculptures through studio documentation, portraits, Polaroids, archival imagery and press clippings. At its centre is a series of 15 previously unseen collages, in which Quinn fragments and rearranges images of Moss into surreal compositions, presented here as artworks in their own right. Revisiting the relationship between celebrity, beauty and the construction of the icon, this book offers an intimate look at the process behind Quinn’s enduring study of one of the most recognisable figures in contemporary culture.
